Dear Mother, Daddy, and Sandy,
I am sitting here this morning with nothing to do. That really seems strange for Saturday, I know, but we are not going to have SMI this morning for the band needs all the time they can get for the concert in 2 weeks. I fortunately am X-clarinet so I don’t have to go to review inspection and band practice.
Last night I was bracing around a corner and an upperclassman ran into me. I banged up my lip and jarred a couple of teeth. The “banging up” didn’t bother me so much, it was the surprise of getting it done. Oh well, that’s life. I surely am glad to rest this morning and study some.
Nothing much has happened this week except I was on guard Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. I got a lot of homework done because I was on in an easy barracks and didn’t have to run around. It was a real experience though.

Last night Jim Black and I went to the basketball game between us and Davidson. We won 41-34. I saw Bobby Turk play. He was captain of the Grady team the first year. I went to bed early. I am trying to get my eye better. I won’t do much these days.
I read about Aaron and John. I have been seeing others there I know too. I was thinking about the same thing too in regard to Washington’s weather.
The other night the C.O. gave us plebes a lecture on better grades because this is the hardest quarter of the freshman year. I am coaching some boys in chemistry.
May I ask a girl to the spring dance? There is no harm if asking if you give me your permission. Just wondered. I will ask Betty probably.
With lots of love,
Jimmy
P.S. I have the sniffles all the time but I think that is just sinus with this climate like it is.
