The South Carolina Inter-State and West Indian Exposition of 1901-1902

SCMA exhibit.jpg

The South Carolina Inter-State and West Indian Exposition, also known as the Charleston Exposition or the West Indian Exposition, was held in Charleston, South Carolina from December 1, 1901 to June 20, 1902, as an effort to improve trade efforts with Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the exposition, the then-South Carolina Military Academy (SCMA) created an exhibit in which cadets, SCMA alumni, and the general public visited and entered their names within the site's guestbook. The Citadel Archives and Museum currently holds this guestbook, in addition to special artifacts from the exposition itself.

This digital exhibit allows this unique part of Citadel history to be proudly displayed. Throughout the following pages, site visitors can learn more about the exposition's history and South Carolina Military Academy cadet profiles.
