My Dear Col:
Your letter containing statement of my sons, Cadet T. O. Ott’s acct and check for $88.09 as balance due me on account [illegible words] came to hand duly. I have been unwell & not able to attend to business is why I did not immediately reply to yours. I wrote you and sent receipt back to you which you sent me for the check on the 7th inst requesting you not to use [illegible] until matters at the Citadel were satisfactorily
[Page 2]
adjusted. Your statement shows that I am indebted to your institution only $11.91. This amount I am ready to settle when the clothing & other articles belonging to my son & in possession of your institution are delivered to me.
I have written Mr. W. W. White and also yourself in regard to the matter and await a reply. I return you (within) the check for $88.09 on the Carolina Saving’s Bank which you sent me. As I do not see the necessity of settling the [illegible] amount you claim I am due in that way.
Very Truly Yours
