11/9/49 Dear Mother, Daddy, and Sandy,
I have just finished an algebra test and am writing this in class. I didn’t have time to write last night. The work is getting harder now and intramurals end this week so I will have more time to study.
Monday night we had the asst. Pastor of the Citadel Square Baptist Church to talk to the Fellowship. He was Mr. Phil Padgett. (The C.S. Baptist is the largest Baptist church in South Carolina). His subject was dating and he gave an unusual twist to an old and much used subject.
Tuesday morning I didn’t feel any different because I was 18. At 12 after classes I went to the adj.’s [adjutant's] office and registered for the draft. My draft board is 10 Charleston, S.C. That afternoon I had a chemistry lab. At 4 we had a meeting of the Citadel Club, but nothing was decided about the trip because the school officials working on it had messed things up so we may not go at all.
[Page 2]
But do keep in mind the decision from Charlotte. After that I went to get a hair cut [sic]. I believe it is the shortest one yet. Then I went back to barracks and shined my shoes and brass. Ate super and studied.
I just went through Ger., Eng., [German, English] and algebra this morning.
I can’t think of anything else to write about so will close. Thanks for the cute card I got it yesterday with a letter full of clippings.
Lots of love,
Jimmy
