Dear Mother, Daddy, and Sandy,
It is 11:15 PM Saturday and I guess I had better write some so it will get there by Monday maybe.
Thursday morning I went to my 3 classes as usual and then went to dinner. From 2-4 I shined brass. At 4 we had band practice to drill for the VMI game. At 5:30 we had dinner and then at 6:30 they had a big pep meeting. The Gen. [General], several Alumni, and the coach spoke, cheers were raised, and the band played. After that Bob and I went to the canteen and got some ice cream. Upon getting back we sat around and shot the “bull” with some other boys until about 11. Then we went to bed.
[Page 2]
Got up at 5:00 to get ready for the trip. Ate breakfast at 6:15, cleaned the room, and then we left for the point of departure at 7:30. While we were marching to the spot on the railroad tracks were [sic] we got on, it was really raining. (About 5 blocks of marching). The train was late so we had to wait for it in a heavy downpour. Finally got on and got to Orangeburg about 11:30. We had dinner in the baseball park. It consisted of 2 sandwiches, potatoe [sic] chips, coffee, and apples. It had stopped raining and had gotten colder.
We went to all the shows, and then at 1:30 we formed for the football game. The game was with Wofford and we lost (21-7). After the game we had a dinner at the park. It consisted of fried chicken, peas, rice, jelly and bread, and

milk. After that we went riding and rode me attractions. At 8:00 a bunch got together and went to see “White Heat” with James Cagney. It was a good adventure picture. I didn’t see very much though very sleepy. We left and made it back to Charleston by 1:00. Went to bed and got up this morning at 6:45. Ate breakfast and cleaned the room. At 12 we had choir practice and I had dinner. I listened to the radio until I went to sleep. Slept for 2 hours then took a bath. Ate supper. Then at 7:30 the band, only, took off for the football game between the Citadel frosh and Clemson frosh. Very good game except we lost (20-6). Am now writing this letter and am very sleepy.

I got a letter this morning and one Thursday. Hope you can make it. If you are sure you can be here at 1:00 I will wait outside if not you can call before hand and tell them, the guard, that I was expecting the call and to notify me. I will stay in my room from 1 on. My room no. [number] is 1128. I am planning to write Itie tomorrow.
With lots of love,
Jimmy
P.S. What are you going to do with Sandy? Bring a coupl’a towels. They are a little short. Another washrag, if you can spare them.
