Wednesday

Dearest,

You can’t imagine how good I felt after I read your letter. I have been waiting for an ending like that for a year and a half now honey, and now that it is there it is hard to believe that I’ve been lucky enough to receive such words. Honey, I really feel I know what it means for you to say and write what you have and I will do my best to live up to the trust you have given placed in me. I don’t know how I ever got a girl like you as I really don’t deserve anything that good but maybe in the future I can come close to deserving you. Only time will tell and I’ll be in there fighting till the final bell.

Things have settled down now and I have come to the conclusion that I will not come home a picture of the south. By that I mean I’ll have no more of a tan than you will as my work will keep me away from the beach. I have good instructors but they all require a great deal of work. So far I’m even with the board as far as my work goes but it doesn’t look as if I’ll be able to stay that way. The work is really rolling in.

I just got some good news. The Jewish boys are supposed to get leave from noon Saturday untill [sic] Monday night so we might observe Passover. This means I can go out even though my order (punishment) is still in effect. I hope to go to the beach Saturday and Sunday weather permitting. You should receive this letter just before the holiday so I would like to wish you and the family a very happy holiday and I do hope that in a very few years we will be celebrating it together.

I was sorry to hear my phone call effected you the way it did. You sounded really fine over the phone. I must say you drove your emotions down awfully for this vacation. I really haven’t got one bad word to say except that maybe if you hadn’t tried so hard to make easy for me while I was home, it might well have been easier for you after I left. Honestly, honey, I understand and love you enough to have a darn good good [sic] idea of how you feel.

I got a kick out of you sending me the kiss from Joyce G. Please thank her ever so much for me. There is only one thing I have to say. You know how you feel about Phil kissing you, well that is the way all girls, other than yourself impress me. Honestly I don’t want to insult Joyce and that is the only way I am comparing her to Phil.

I did show the socks you made me to Mom. I am very proud of them! I guess you’ll just have to shoot me. I even told mom that because she didn’t make me socks I found found someone who thought enough of me to do so. She thought that was quite a good dig but promised to wash them carefully and take real good care of them untill [sic] I come home. She said she thought they were really nice and she knows good knitted socks when she sees them so I really don’t know why you want me to hide them. Truthfully I really don’t care if there is any reason because I truly like them and will wear them often.

It is really getting late so please forgive me, honey for quiting [sic] now. I think of you all the time and miss you a great deal. Remember sweets, I love you an awful lot and someday I’ll stay home long enough to prove it.

All my love,
Arty
