My Darling,

I’ve just gotten off duty again and had a usual day - not too rushed but busy all the time. I’m really catching up on my sleep since I’ve been on this shift. Don’t know how much longer it will continue but I suppose for another week. Then, I think I’ll catch night-duty. Don’t exactly relish the idea especially on a colored ward, but it’ll do - I always have an attendant along.

Had another letter from Mom today and one that Jake had written to her. He is stationed in the Philippines now for awhile [sic]. Don’t know which island he’s on, but he wants to see you. His address is: James W. Howell S.C. 1/c
Navy 3964 Box 10
℅ Fleet P.O.
San Francisco, California

I’ll write and send him your address. That might help a little. Hope you’ve received some mail by now.

One of my patients went home the other day, but before he left he gave me a book. The title is “Try and Stop me.” Inside he had written “To the Sunshine of Ward II”. That’s where I’m working and now the patients are calling me Sunshine. I’m really proud of that, but don’t get worried because the patient is 81 years old.

Think I should go to bed now and try to get up a little earlier in the morning. Goodnight, sweetheart. I’ll dream of you.

All my love,
“Lib”
