My Darling,
I hesitate before beginning this letter as I hardly know what to write in these hours of sorrow. Received a letter this afternoon from home telling of the death of your father. It sure was shocking to say the least.
Here it is about Christmas at which time everyone thinks about giving and you have to have your snatched away from you without any warning. Know you are heartbroken but you must be brave.
Mamma said you were so brave, but
[Page 2]
knowing you I know that your heart was broken no matter how your outward appearance appears. Was glad that one of your brothers could be there. I send to you all of my love and sympathy in this sad time.
To you Mrs Howell, I know that Lib is a great comfort to you in these trying hours. So glad it is possible for her to be with you at this time. I send my sincere sympathy and love. Will offer prayer for both of you in this hour of need.
All my love,
Manning
