Dearest darling,
My little adventurer should be well settled at home by now. I do hope the trip was a fine one and that you enjoyed yourself thoroughly. I hope you had such a good time you’ll want to go back in July or even in June.
I’m a crippled man all over again and it seems as if I stay this way for two more weeks. We had a set of shots Monday that really got hold of me. I can hardly lift either arm and the nicest part about it is that I can look forward to more next Monday and a week from Monday. You had better come down here right away and protect me!
I just noticed something that surprised me. You put the wrong box number on that real sweet letter you sent me last Friday. It would have been criminal to let anyone else get it. My box number is 1772 not 1776 as you wrote. My buddy,
[Page 2]
Jim, is the one who distributed the mail and he knows your handwriting already so I don’t worry. I just thought I’d tell you though.
Just think honey, I may be a free man within a wee. I spoke to my company commander and he is going to write an O.C. (Official Communication) to the commandant asking that my punishment be removed. Chances are that it will be removed. Then I can come and go as I please. It is a great feeling to even think about it.
Thank you for giving me the idea of growing a mustache. I really think you are exaggerating when you say what you do concerning that subject. Dad got Mom with a mustache, tickling and all!
I hope you’ll forgive me but I keep reading and rereading your letters because I enjoy them so much. I just noticed something that bothers me just a little. I’m afraid I’ll have to arrange many trips to Washington for one reason. You said you were awfully lonely being away from home. Honey, that will never do. Don’t you realise [sic] that in within the next century I hope to take you away from home for good. I don’t want you to be so
[Page 3]
lonesome I have to bring you back. Now that you see I’m only trying to make things easier for you, I suggest you plan to spend many weekends in Washington. If anyone doesn’t quite understand why, I’ll be glad to draw them some pictures.
Feel much better now that I’ve written to you. Miss you and need you more than ever, honey, and love you almost to distraction. Good nite sweets, and please be good.
All my love,
Arty
