Robert F. Woodhouse Jr., or “Woody” as he was known by friends and classmates, was born in Elmira, New York on April 5, 1946, son to Robert F. and Geraldine Hyde Woodhouse. He was a 1964 graduate of Ellenville High School, and a 1968 graduate of The Citadel, where he majored in Political Science. At The Citadel, Woodhouse was on the Dean’s list, a Distinguished Military Student, and received the Widder Award, which is awarded to the cadet who best personifies military virtue. He was also a president of the Ranger-Airborne Club, a member of the Junior Sword Drill, and a member of the International Relations Club.
On July 7, 1970 Robert Woodhouse was killed in a mortar attack during a landing operation. He had been in Vietnam for eleven months, and had attained the rank of Captain.
