[Page 1] Headquarters 1st Field Artillery Brigade, A.E.F. France, March 14, 1918 My precious son, Your nice letter of Feb 17 and the fine pictures of my handsome boy came today and pleased me immensely. I have no fear of your not passing your subjects and I am proud to have such a smart child. Thank you for the pictures and the letter.

[Page 2] Since I wrote you about how I lived, we have been doing some lively work. There is much firing every day on both sides. Batteries, trenches, working parties, dumps, and [illegible] are constant targets. Three times lately we have [illegible] raiding parties who went and returned without loss. The spirit of the batteries is fine and their shooting is excellent. I hated to leave the 67th but this Brigade is now the best command

[Page 3] that I ever had. I am so glad that you can go around with Bernice. She is the nicest little girl I know and you are lucky to have her so near. There are many French children in all these towns living in sound of the guns. I wonder if they will remember the great war. I am so glad that you are there to take care of our little mother. I send you both lots of love and kisses.

Your loving, Dad
