Interview recorded July 20, 2000 in Miami, Florida. Final copy prepared January 31, 2003. Alvah Chapman was a graduate of The Citadel’s Class of 1942. He served in the Army, and was a newspaper executive. This interview relates to Chapman’s active duty service from 1942-1945 as a B-17 pilot (lead pilot, operations officer, squadron commander), 614th Bomb Squadron, 401st Bomb Group, 94th Combat Wing, Eighth Air Force, U.S. Army Air Corps. Two overseas tours, November 1943 - June 1944 and September 1944 - May 1945. Thirty-seven combat missions from England into Germany and German-occupied Europe.
