Hi Honey,

How is your studing [sic] for your finals progressing. By the time you get this letter you should be really covered with work but I hope this little interruption will not hurt. Remember, get back to those books when you finish this letter.

We got into the final playoffs in the softball tournament today. We beat the boys from B Company 9-2. They really shouldn’t have had those two runs but we got a few unearned runs also so all is even on that score. We play the final game at 8:00 am Saturday and if we win we play again at 11:00. If we win that game were [sic] are the champions at school. So far everything really looks good. The boys had quite a few rough spots today but I feel that this game has conditioned them for Saturday and Saturday things will run smoother. I am not

one to critisize [sic] too much as I made two errors myself. They cast us two outs and put us in some tight places. All in all though, I am very happy with the team and really feel we can win the championship. In a few minutes I have to write out the list of boys that are to play Saturday so they can miss inspection. It is a good break for the chosen few.

I did something last night and now I can’t figure out why I did it. The only excuse I have is that - well I’ll tell you after I explain what I did. I met one of the boys special girl the other day when she was up here at school. She lives in Charleston so I decided to call her up for a date. I asked him for her phone number and even asked him for a nickel. I got the phone number period. Well, I got the date. My [illegible] the other night was that if some boy could date the girl I hope to call mine why can’t I do the same. Besides, [illegible] in this manner, I will not be hurting anyone should she like me as she will always have this other fellow as I a date. I hate dating a girl once and telling her I

had a good time and then not calling again. It seems as if at the beginning of each quarter I say I am going to date but after one or two I quit as there is no one that I can even put in the same class as you are, honey. As far as I am concerned you are in a class all by yourself and that is the class I like. Any other one just doesn’t hit me right.

I guess I’ll just have to confess that I have changed my mind. I really don’t care too much now if you are only out for my money as I am no longer out for what I can get. I have fallen for you as you have hypnotized me into thinking so. I thought it might be nice to tell you this so maybe you might change your mind too!

Please give my regards to the folks, Joyce, Eddie, Joyce, Bob, Jan and Ben. (What has happened between Joyce and Jack?)

In closing I want to tell you I miss you ever so much and love you a great deal. Please be good and study hard.

All my love,
Arty
