Description
John Michael Palms was born June 6, 1935 in Rijswijk, The Netherlands. His family permanently immigrated to the United States in 1951, and he became a U.S. citizen in 1956. Palms graduated with The Citadel's Class of 1958, and received a commission in the Air Force. He earned a Master's degree in Physics from Emory University in 1959, and his Ph.D. in Physics at The University of New Mexico in 1966. Palms taught at Emory University for over twenty years, was President of Georgia State University for two years, and President of the University of South Carolina for nearly twelve years. He has published over sixty scientific and technical papers and reports, has served on numerous boards, and has received a number of honors.
