Self Portrait by Dashawn Maurice Costley
Title
Self Portrait by Dashawn Maurice Costley
Description
Illustration by Dashawn Maurice Costley submitted as part of The Citadel Archives COVID-19 Collection on April 28, 2020.
Costley wrote: "This is an acrylic painting of a photoshoot I did while quarantining at home. Since barbershops and other public areas are closed, my father posed to cut my hair. In the black community, a barbershop serves as a place where you can not only get your hair cut but also socialize with friends. Some people dress to impress when they are going to get their hair cut. With the temporary closing of these shops, my father and I found ourselves getting dressed to go nowhere."
