��CONSTITUTION

PREAMBLE.
We, the undersigned, graduates of the State l\1ilitary
Academy of South Carolina, wishing to perpetuate the
fraternal intercourse of our academic life, and recognizing the Diploma of our Institution as a bond of cordial
fellowship, and of mutual obligation to advance her
interests, do hereby organize an Association under the
provisions of tho following Constitution-

ARTICLE I.
The name and style of this Society shall be "TuE
ASSOCIATION
ACADEMY

OF GRADUATES

OF THE STATE MILITARY

OF SOUTH CAROLINA."

ARTICLE II.
1. Every graduate of the State 1"1ilitaryAcademy, who pays into the Treasury the sum of Five DolSEC.

�lars, and subscribes his nan10 to this Constitution, sh&amp;.11
be adn1itted a merr1ber of the Association, unless good
cause be shown to the contrary.
SEC. 2. The me1nbcrs of the Board of Visiters, and
of the Faculties of th0 Citadel and Arsenal Academies
shall be considered Ilonorary Me111bersof the Association.

ARTICLE III.
1. On or before tho first day of N ovcn1bcr,
annually, each n1en1ber shall pay to the Treasurer the
su1n of Five Dollars.
SEC. 2. Any n1en1ber who shall n1akc a pay1ncnt of
Fifty Dollars into the Treasury, shall be exefnpted fro1n
subsequent annua l contributions, and shall be considered
a life-men1ber of the Association.
SEC.

ARTICLE

IV.

The Association shall meet, annually, in the City of
Charleston on the day after the Con1111cncen1ent the
of
Citadel Academy.

ARTICLE V.
SEC.

1. The Officers of the Association shall be a

President, three Vice-Presidents, a Corresponding Sec-

retary, a Secretary and Treasurer, and five Directors ,
who shall constitute an Executive Con1mittee, and have
the entire managen1ent of the affairs of the Association,
subject always to its supervision and control and to any
rules or by-laws, which may be hereafter enacted.
SEC. 2. Three of the Executive Comn1ittee shall be
qualified to transact the business of th e Association.
SEC. 3. It shall be the duty of the Presid ent to preside at all meetings of the Association, and of the Executive Committee; to call extra n1eetings when he n1ay
deem it necessary, or at th e request of not less than six
of the n1embers; to appoint extra Co1n1nittees,and generally, to perfo:nn all the duties of a presiding Officer.
SEC. 4. In case of the absence of th e P resident, his
duties shall devolve upon the Senior Vice-President,
and if all the Vice Presidents be absent, upon the oldest
graduate among the Directors.
SEC. 5. It shall be the duty of the Secretary and
Treasurer, to record th e proceedings of the meetings;
to take charge of this Constitution, and to attach thereto
all a1nendn1ents and by-laws that n1ay hereafter be
adopted; to receive signatures to the Constitutjon and
to issue certificates of membership when required; to
keep a register of the n1embers of the Association, with
th e date of each one's graduation, and of his adn1ission
into the Association, his location, occupation or death ;
also to receive all moneys and to dispose of the s~1neas
shall be ordered by the Association. I n case of the absence
of this Officer, his duties will devolve upon a member of
the Executive Con1n1itteeappoint ed by the ,President.

SEC. 6. It shall be the duty of the Corresponding
Secretary to comn1unicate with the 1ne111 of the
bers
Association, and to gather all inforn1ation necessary for
the compilation of the Register, which information he
shall embody in a report to be laid before the Association at its annual meeting.

A.RTICLE VI.
SEC. 1. An Address shall be delivered -bcf ore tho
Association, annually, at such time and place as 111ay
be
appointed by tho Executive Co1nn1ittee.
SEC. 2. At each regular n1eeting an Ora.tor and an
Alternate shall be elected.
SEC. 3. In case the orator shall decline the appointed
duty or be prevented from discharging tho san1c, ho
shall give due notice to the President and said duty
shall devolve on the Alternate.

ARTICLE VII.
SEC. 1. The officers and orator shall be balloted for
on general ticket at regular n1eetings of tho Association.
A n1ajority of all the votes cast shall decide the election.
Upon failure to elect, the incumbent or incumbents
shall continue in office until an election shall take place.
In the event of a plurality of votes, the two members
only, who have received the highest number shall be
subsequently balloted for at that meeting.

2. Should any n1ember so elected decline to fill
such office, his place shall be supplied by the 1nen1ber
having the next highest nun1ber of votes.
SEC.

ARTICLE

VI I I.

The Officers of the Association shaJ1 be elected bienniaJly .

ARTICLE

IX .

The Articles and Provisions of this Constitution may
be rep ealed, added to or arnended at any regular meeting, by two-thirds of th e 1nembers present .

BY-LAW-S.

1. Every meinber of the Association shall inforn1 the

Corresponding Secretary of any important or decisive
change in his business or location.
2. Three Stewards appointed by the President fro1n
the Executive Comn1ittee shall see that a supper be
provided for the Association at each annual meeting.
3. Each 1nen1ber designing to attend the annual
1neeting will be expected to give notice to the Corresponding Secretary, who ghall notify the fact to the
Steward s.
