The courses are identical for the freshmen year except that I took drawing whereas the boys in my class in Bus. Major took freshmen Spanish. I am now taking freshmen spanish [sic] and it will be the end of my junior year before I will be through with it. If I don’t get it in this present quarter it will be into my senior year before I will be through with it. Now heres the catch -- I will not be able to make it my senior yea because of the many other courses which I will have to take. As i said before I will give you a square deal and am going to do all I can to get these courses. If we an’t get it straight in the morning I will call you up and inform you of what the situation is. I think that all the strikes will soon be straightened out since Harry Truman got on the ball. He is a pretty good president but is just too slow. I realize that the time had come when a man must have a college education to get ahead in this world. I plan to be one of those men that is going to get ahead. That is why I want so badly to spend this summer at home working for you. I have not heard a word from anyone since I left home last week. Please write me and tell me what is going on. Well I have been back almost a week now. I am either not adjusted or just mad I don’t know which. I hate to tell you this but I just can’t seem to get to studying this quarter. Now I have every morning free but at 3rd period but have a lot of afternoon classes. Statistics and Physics are about the hardest subjects I am taking. Well i walked my first tours this week. I walked one Monday afternoon from 4 5 to 6 with my rifle but did not have to carry it today because they have been taken up for government inspection. I walked my last tour today but don’t think they did me any good because I just as well walk them next month. Spanish is not hard - in fact it is very similar to latin. We have not been able to get books yet in Statistics, Economics, or Spanish. I wish they would hurry up and come in so I wouldn’t have to be going all around borrowing books. Gosh - I won’t be there but for 18 days and that will be like heaven. I got a telegram from Sis to-day [sic] about sending her the car license receipt. I mailed it immediatly [sic] by special delivery and it ought to be there at noon tomorrow. I sure do hope that she isn’t in any trouble. Ray is going on a Methodist conference in Columbia this week-end [sic]. He will be in Sumter on Sat. (maybe) and I told him to come by and see you. Please send me something to eat back by him. Over. [Page 2] I haven’t heart from or [illegible] this week except Dad and he didn’t write a live. He only sent a $50.00 Christmas check (I ain’t [illegible] if he didn’t write) and I haven’t heard but a post card from you since Thanksgiving. Well Mom, this isn’t much of a letter but you said just to mail you something - gotten put down old cadet bed now. Love, Son P.S. Am in very bad need (for Christmas) of bedroom shoes and bathrobe.
